Creative Blog- Creative Direction, Branding and Design Projects
brief: I have 30 minutes to plan, photograph and edit photos based on United Colors of Benetton, using only things that I currently own and the same plain white wall as a backdrop. I will pick clothes, apply make up, style my hair, pose and edit in a style that I think captures the essence of the brand. well, if I've ever misjudged a time limit, it's now. Haaaaaa. I really wanted to do more on this so I went over the time limit buy about a million hours. I managed to get the red and yellow ones done within the 30 minutes though. win. The obvious challenges were:
- the lack of diversity that's SO important for this brand but I am only me so I was v limited here - my monochrome coloured capsule wardrobe: I had ZERO colourful items of clothing and no fun hair accessories so I had to change the colour of my white t shirt and grey leggings in Photoshop. Burn. - the multitude of ideas that I wanted to fit into one graphic, oh how optimistic I was with the time limit. Lel. To be fair I whapped out the images straight away, taking about 3 minutes, I got five images and used four of them. Pro model points to me. This was necessary as I knew the editing is what would take the most time with this one. For the initial editing I lowered the contrast, upped the exposure slightly, increased the saturation a little and lowered the clarity to get a super fun, warm, commercial fashion style, which made my hair look super golden, HELLO. I also upped the noise reduction which is my skin's best friend. I chose a simple tee and leggings as the focus is all on the colours here. With more time, I would have changed outfits to break it up a bit. Make up was natural with a pink lippy and my hair was washed (rare) and then I let it dry into natural, smooth waves and combed it (unheard of). I had a lot of fun with this and it made me super quick at cutting shit out on Photoshop. I do want to take it further though: Adding different outfits, more colours, a bigger variety of poses and more fun accessories! Thanks to my fren who suggested doing this brand, it was a good'un! #creative #creativedirection #styling #fashionstyling #stylist #branding #creativeportfolio #creativechallenge #unitedcolorsofbenetton #photoshoot
